GCSE results success
Students in Telford are celebrating success as many schools in the borough have again seen an improvement in this year’s GCSE results.
Ercall Wood have seen an increase for the second year running with a 3% increase in the number of students achieving a grade 5 or above in both Maths and English.
Madeley Academy achieved 75% grade 4 or above in English, an increase from last year’s result and above national.
Telford Langley and Telford Priory have also seen increases of over 3% in their attainment at grade 4 or above in English.
Burton Borough achieved an increase of 2.4% in the number of students receiving a grade 4 or above in Maths, with 74% of pupils. This is also 3% above national which is 71%.
Newport Girls High continued their success with 100% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in both Maths and English.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Education and Skills, said: “We are delighted with these good results and for our students, who are now well prepared for the next stages in their education.
“I would like to wish them every success for the future. I would also like to thank all of the staff in schools who have worked so hard to ensure our pupils have had the best opportunity to fulfil their potential.”
