Telford & Wrekin Cleaning Services wins top award
Telford & Wrekin Council’s cleaning services known as Let’s Clean have won a prestigious national award.
The team claimed top prize in the Cleaning and Facilities Management category at the Association of Public Service Excellence awards ceremony in Oxford.
APSE promotes excellence in local government frontline services. Telford & Wrekin were in competition with four other shortlisted councils as the Best Service Team of the Year in the Facilities Management and Building Cleaning category, and won.
The team’s winning award entry focuses on how Telford & Wrekin Council are implementing savings, rebranding their service to Let’s Clean as well as the challenge of competing as a local authority service.
Let’s Clean employs over 350 staff working across 140 sites, consisting of Schools, Council and Commercial buildings. The Cleaning Service delivers daily cleaning services, emergency cleans, floor care and advice amongst other training packages and deep cleaning services.
Let’s Clean has diversified and expanded; it has transformed itself to be both creative and competitive in the market place whilst proving successful in delivering internal budget savings.
Councillor John Minor, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Green Spaces and Parks, said: “Telford & Wrekin’s Cleaning Service has embraced both challenges and changes. The Cleaning Service has been able to adapt through challenges posed from being a Local Authority service, and has changed in accordance with customer expectations.
“It’s great to see some recognition from this national award. The Cleaning Service has recently begun to successfully offer its services to a range of businesses across the borough and further afield, helping to generate new income for the council”.
