Aspirations Newport Swimming Pool wins at APSE awards

Aspirations Newport Swimming Pool wins at APSE awards

The APSE award demonstrates an exceptional commitment to frontline service provision at Newport Swimming Pool; ranging from cost and quality performance indicators, promoting excellence and continuous improvement within the Centre.

Telford & Wrekin Council were in competition with approximately 70 other facilities from all over the UK before winning the most improved performer award.

Newport Swimming Pool forms part of the Aspirations wider health and fitness offer within the borough. The award highlights the increase in usage at the Centre and growing membership levels.

Newport Pool was refurbished and extended in 2013/14 through a Council Invest to Save initiative which allowed for the development of the aspirations gym facility.  The investment into such schemes indicates a clear drive to invest in front line services to generate income as an alternative to government cuts.

In addition to the Aspirations improvements, a key contributor towards Newport Swimming Pool’s win was the Swim4Life lessons programme that has increased its uptake over the course of the year.

Councillor John Minor, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Green Spaces and Parks, said: “Telford & Wrekin’s Leisure team has embraced both the recent changes and improvements to the Aspirations health and fitness offer. Newport Swimming Pool demonstrates a clear increase in performance and this award reflects the efforts the whole team have gone to.

"It’s great to see some recognition from this national award, and I look forward to further milestones in the future.”
