Learn to ice skate at Telford Ice Rink, join the new Skate4Life lesson programme.
Launched in the first week of April, the new Skate4Life lessons offer ice skaters the opportunity to take part in weekly lessons throughout the year on a continuous basis, designed to develop skills, skating techniques and build confidence on the ice through the programme of structured skating lessons.
The lessons are available on weekend mornings or Monday evenings and each one is half an hour long. There is a range of lesson courses available from beginners to advanced figure and dance. Skate tots are suitable from age 3 plus.
The lessons are structured to follow the British Ice Skating (BIS) criteria for skating which allows non-skaters to become competent skaters who can display a variety of skating techniques. Skaters will be able to progress through the stages with certificates and badges being available to purchase from reception, before progression to the next level.
Councillor Kelly Middleton (Lab) Cabinet Member for Leisure, Public Health and Well-Being, Equalities and Partnerships said: “Telford Ice Rink is an asset to the local community and is home to National Ice Hockey League National and Laidler 2021/22 League Champions, Telford Tigers. The new Skate4Life programme is yet again another great initiative for the rink, offering the opportunity for skaters to reach their full potential. Having lessons on a continual basis offers great health benefits such as improved balance, coordination and fitness, as well as also being great for mental health too. Skate4Life is a fabulous opportunity for individuals to take learned skills further and maybe eventually into a career. It would be great to see those who have worked through the programme progress through to BIS competitions, possibly making the GB Olympic squad or skating professionally in ice shows such as Disney On Ice.”
Speak to reception at the ice rink for more information on starting lessons and payment options. If you choose to pay by direct debit you get the added benefit of unlimited skating in public skating sessions (This will include all of the peak and off-peak sessions but excludes Adult Morning, Patch and Tots sessions).
