Neighbourhood walkabouts in Madeley and Ironbridge, 7 October 2020
Today’s Neighbourhood Walkabouts were in Madeley and Ironbridge. Local councillors met us to walk us round and talk about their issues and concerns. A few residents and businesses also stopped to chat along the way.
In Madeley we met Cllrs Janice Jones and Paul Watling at the shops on Queen Street. They raised issues about the road surface on Queen Street and some stretches of uneven footpath leading to the high street. Environmental issues included an overflowing litterbin, steps leading to one of the pit mounds that need a clean, a tree near Hanover Court that needs looking at, a bollard that has been knocked over and, although looking good today, the general cleanliness of the walkway by the village green leading to Meadowlea. These issues were logged for sorting.
Other issues discussed were more parking, similar to the extra parking installed at Kemberton Drive last year, and a bus shelter at the bus stop near Hanover Court. One resident stopped us to talk about the state of footpaths on their housing association development which we will raise with the landlord, but in the meantime we will arrange for our footpaths crew to give them a clean.
In Ironbridge, we were met by cllr Carolyn Healy in the Station Yard Car Park. Before setting off, cllr Healy talked about the need to spruce up the car park, tidy up the shrub beds and paint the railings. Most of the issues raised during the walkabout were grounds maintenance related, including winter pruning of pathways that weave through the gorge and tidying up the flower and shrub beds on Madeley Road and by the Iron Bridge, including the slope behind the war memorial. Other issues included a skew-whiff fingerpost sign and the surface of some of the footpaths and road surfaces by the church. These jobs were logged as we walked.
There were also discussions about what could be done in Southside Gardens, a hidden gem of a garden up the hillside which needs some TLC.
More walkabouts are planned, but if you would like to report an issue in your area, here are the links:
