Schools reopening for autumn

Next week sees the start of the autumn term and for many borough pupils they will return to school, full time, for the first time in almost six months.

Schools reopening for autumn
All schools, including academies, are set to reopen at the beginning of term and have been working hard to implement controls to keep children safe.

From September, the Government has said that school-age children’s attendance is compulsory and parents must send children to school regularly.

Starting arrangements at each school may be different and schools will have contacted parents directly about this and more details will be on their websites.  If you have any queries about arrangements for your school, please talk directly to them.

There is now new national guidance about face-coverings in schools.

Unless there is a local lockdown, this applies to Year 7 pupils and above at secondary schools and further education colleges only.

Each secondary school or college can decide whether pupils and staff should wear face coverings in certain areas, for example communal areas.  Face coverings are not recommended in classrooms.  If a school decides to do this, they will contact to parents and pupils directly.

Any pupil aged over 11 (apart from those that are exempt) will however need a face covering if they’re using school or public transport.

There will be additional bus services to support children getting to and from school safely.  More information about travelling to school using Arriva services is available here

If you have specific queries about your school’s reopening, please contact the school directly.
