Council starts series of neighbourhood walkabouts
Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for neighbourhood services is taking to the streets over the coming weeks for a series of neighbourhood walkabouts.
Cllr Lee Carter is being joined by council officers, ward councillors and representatives from the council’s grounds and highways contractors, idverde and Balfour Beatty, to identify local issues as they walk around each area.
Council crews are already out working in areas across borough as part of their ongoing work programme, but these local walkabouts will help identify other local issues which can be addressed.
Concerns around littering and fly tipping have become more of an issue as lockdown restrictions have eased, but there may be other issues that the Council isn’t aware of.
Cllr Lee Carter said: “These walkabouts are a great way for us to work with local councillors and see at first hand their neighbourhood needs and concerns. I am sure there will be some common themes, but each area is different. This is a chance for us to get a better understanding so we can take a more localised approach.”
The first walkabout was in Malinslee and Dawley Bank today with a programme of visits to other areas over the coming weeks. Concerns raised during today’s visit included seasonal issues around shrubs encroaching on footpaths, grass cutting, weeds on hard surfaces, a damaged street sign and a couple of fly tips.
Council officers have noted the issues raised and will be taking action to address them.
