New Year, New Savings - Spend less to keep your home warm & cosy!

“Save more and spend less” is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions. If it’s your resolution as well, these free-to-use services could help you save significantly while keeping your home warm and cosy.

New Year, New Savings -
Spend less to keep your home warm & cosy!

Switch Telford is the Council’s energy price comparison and switching website that’s free for anyone to use and that can help any household make considerable savings, even around *£447 or more on annual energy bills.

If you haven’t switched your supplier for a while, try it and see how much you could save – just log on www.switch.telford.gov.uk or call the free helpline 0800 188 4969, providing your post code and having an energy bill on hand.

It then takes you as little as five minutes to get tailored advice on the cheapest tariff for your household and switch supplier. It’s really that simple.

If doing your bit for the environment also comes up on your New Year’s resolutions list, you could switch to a “Green Energy” Plan on Switch Telford that uses sustainable and renewable energy sources.

If you (or anyone you know) struggle to keep their home warm, are on low income or meet certain eligibility criteria, LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership), a completely free of charge service, could provide a helping hand.

A LEAP Home Advisor will carry out a free home visit to assess what help is needed.

They can implement measures free-of-charge for a warmer home such as fitting energy-saving LED bulbs, draught-proofing of doors, installing cylinder jackets, fitting heat reflectors to radiators and many others – all these leading to lower energy bills.

Even more, fully funded gas connections and free first time gas central heating systems can be installed in eligible households following LEAP visits or by people applying directly for the new ‘Connected for Warmth’ service.
.

Councillor Raj Mehta, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Community & Inclusivity said: "New Year is a time to make changes and saving more on home energy bills is simple to do with our free-to-use services.

““switch.telford.gov.uk helps everyone pay less on gas and electricity by switching their supplier through a simple, hassle free process.

I used the website myself and managed to save significantly.

With LEAP we want to help eligible households most in need to heat their homes and reduce their costs, through free-of-charge measures being installed.

To support these households even more, we’ve recently secured funding for “Connected for Warmth” which helps eligible residents without gas central system to benefit from one for free.
Funding for this is limited so we encourage people to apply as soon as possible on www.connectedforwarmth.org.uk or by calling the free helpline on 0800 029 4547.

“With all these free-to-access services the Council is offering in partnership with Agility Eco, we hope we will be able to help many households pay less and save more this year.”

* Between 1 Jan 2019 and 30 Jun 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with uSwitch (Switch Telford Ofgem accredited partner) saved £447 or more.
