Pride in Our Community improvements - week starting 18 November 2019
Here are details of what our crews are working on this week, plus links to more information and to report any issues you are aware of.
Winter maintenance – our Balfour Beatty gritters went out 1 time last week, and crews are on standby 24/7 to respond to Met Office warnings of snow and ice. Met office 5 day forecast for Telford here. More winter info + advice here.
Road surfacing – just a reminder that Waterloo Street in Ironbridge is closed until Friday 22 November due to work being done by Severn Trent Water. More information here.
Highways structures (e.g. bridges) – urgent repairs to stabilise the highway on the approach to Ercall Mill Bridge are complete and the road has reopened with traffic lights currently in place. Engineers are carrying out further monitoring inspections of the structure/highway in the next few weeks whilst a permanent solution is designed. Crews are continuing with work on the bridge on Bridgnorth Road (just south of Cuckoo Oak Roundabout). A road closure is in place between Cuckoo Oak Roundabout and Chilcott Drive, with diversions signposted, and the work could take up to 5 weeks to complete (though hopefully much less). There is access for residents and to the local school, but all through traffic is advised to follow the signed diversion which will help minimise delays. More information here.
Drains (gullies) – our Balfour Beatty crews are out with the gully tanker cleaning drains in Aqueduct, Brookside and Dawley. You can report a drainage issue here.
Safety/traffic calming schemes – our Balfour Beatty crews are continuing to install a new pedestrian crossing in Wrekin Drive, Donnington, as well road repairs/patching; the road is closed with a full diversion in place. Crews are also installing new road markings to improve the safety around Newport Girls High, Moorfield, Burton Borough, Newport Infant and Newport Junior. Warning signs will go up shortly.
Potholes – our Balfour Beatty crews are filling potholes that have been reported to us. This week they are in Brookside, Ellerdine, Hadley, Halesfield, Madeley, Newport, Shawbirch, The Rock, and Wellington. Please report any you spot here.
Footpaths – our Balfour Beatty crews are improving footpaths in St Georges (Grove St, Park Cl, Stafford St), Newport (Oak Av, Granville House, Granville Av, Heatherdale) and Shawbirch (Cote Rd, Oakfield Rd). You can report a footpath issue here.
Street lighting – crews fix faulty street lights reported to us. Please report any you spot here.
Newport Innovation and Enterprise Package – highways/infrastructure improvements to A518 to create Ni-Park, a world-leading agri-tech hub in Newport. More information here.
Grounds maintenance – our idverde crews are tending the shrub beds in Donnington, Malinslee and Sutton Hill, and are out with the flail hedge trimmer in Shawbirch. The tree teams are in areas across the borough, including Dawley Green Way where they are removing nursery stock poplars so that the natives get the space and light they need to flourish. More information here. You can report a grounds maintenance issue here.
Street cleansing – our idverde crews are bin emptying and litter picking in areas across the borough. Road sweepers are concentrating on leaf clearance in areas across the borough. A Find it Fix It crew is at Holy Trinity Church in Dawley, and PET teams are working in other local areas doing jobs requested by town/parish councils. You can report an issue with littering here.
Street Champions – our volunteer Street Champions are out and about doing their bit to keep neighbourhoods tidy. Also on Wednesday afternoon, Southall School DofE students will once again be litter picking the Green Guarantee space around Wrekin Retail Park. On Sunday, street champions will be joining residents in Priorslee to plant seven trees and 700 bulbs (thanks to funding from St Georges & Priorslee Parish Council). Details about becoming a Street Champion and other volunteering opportunities here.
Enforcement – another plea from our enforcement team to pick up after you dog. They’ve had reports that some irresponsible dog owners are using the cover of darkness to choose not to pick up after their dog. It is a requirement of owning a dog to pick up after them, and an offence which could lead to a fine if you don’t. More info about where you can get free dog poo bags and to report issues with dog fouling here.
