Pride in Our Community improvements - week starting 21 October 2019

Here are details of what our crews are working on this week, plus links to more information and to report any issues you are aware of.

Pride in Our Community improvements - week starting 21 October 2019

Winter maintenance – Wednesday 16 October marked the official start of our winter highways season, and our gritting crews are now on standby 24/7 to respond to Met Office warnings of snow and ice. More information plus advice to help you be prepared for winter here.

Road surfacing – the resurfacing of Cuckoo Oak Roundabout starts today and will last for 2 weeks (weather permitting). Crews will be working overnight (7pm-6am) to minimise disruption. Further information on the scheme including traffic management arrangements here. Also a reminder that Waterloo Street in Ironbridge is closed until Friday 22 November due to work being done by Severn Trent Water. More information here.

Drains (gullies) – crews are out with the gully tanker cleaning drains in Ketley and Overdale. You can report a drainage issue here.

Potholes - crews are filling potholes that have been reported to us. This week they are in Coalbrookdale, Donnington, Hollinswood, Ketley Bank, Leegomery, Lilleshall, Madeley, Newport, Priorslee, Stafford Park, St Georges, Sutton Hill, Tibberton, The Rock, Wellington and Woodside. Please report any you spot here.

Footpaths – crews are improving footpaths in Apley (Brandon Gv, Sunderland Dv, Beaufort Cl), and St Georges (Bromley Way, Marrions Hill, Hill Crest Rd, Morden Cl, Wavertree Cl, Regent Dv, Fountain Dv, Athol Dv). You can report a footpath issue here.

Street lighting – crews fix faulty street lights reported to us. Please report any you spot here.

Safety schemes – a pedestrian guardrail is being installed at Birchfield Way/Lawley crossroads.

Grounds maintenance – with grass cutting now finished for the season, crews are hedge cutting in Apley, Dawley Halesfield, Horsehay, Leegomery and Wrockwardine Wood; and the flail hedge trimmer will be out in Priorslee and St Georges.  The planting of winter bedding has also started; the crews were in Dawley Park last week and are in Bowring Park and other locations in the borough this week. You can report a grounds maintenance issue here.

Street cleansing - crews are bin emptying and litter picking in areas across the borough, road sweeping in Sutton Hill and Woodside and cleaning paths in Sutton Hill. You can report an issue with littering here.

Street Champions – our volunteer Street Champions are out and about doing their bit to keep neighbourhoods tidy. Details about becoming a Street Champion and other volunteering opportunities here.

Enforcement – our enforcement team issues fines to anyone caught littering, and want to remind people that cigarette butts are litter too. Keep Britain Tidy cites cigarette butts as the number one littered item in the country. As well as looking awful, they can take years to decompose and are a health risk to wildlife.  Anyone caught littering their butts risks being fined £80 (£150 if thrown from a car), so please help us to keep our borough tidy and #binthebutts.  More info information here.
