Children’s author Joseph Coelho boosts Summer Reading Challenge
Southwater Library has welcomed the Award Winning children’s poet and ‘Luna Loves Library Day’ author Joseph Coelho to Telford, as part of his UK campervan tour to join a library in every region of the UK.
That’s 209 libraries and his aim in August is to cover 70 libraries in just 25 days!
His visit celebrated the vital role libraries play and encouraged as many people as possible to join a library.
Joseph was particularly delighted that Telford & Wrekin is taking part in this year’s Space Chase Summer Reading Challenge and welcomed the news that over 1,300 children have already joined the challenge.
Councillor Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure said: “We are delighted to support Joseph in his library marathon tour across the country to showcase the important role libraries play in our community.
“His visit helps us celebrate the wonderful activities that take place in our Libraries and the record number of young people who have already joined our Space Chase Summer Reading Challenge, inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
“With a week of the summer holiday left, there is still time for children to join the challenge and have fun - by reading books, solving clues, collecting stickers and earning prizes.”
Children taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge have until Saturday 7th September to read their six books and complete this year’s challenge at any Telford & Wrekin Library and gain their finishers medal.
During the holidays, Telford and Wrekin Libraries have also run space themed activities including STEM workshops, astronauts in training and visits from local authors.
More events are to take place at the end of August as well, such as “Space Scenes Craft”, designing Space Masks, Pom-Pom Aliens, Discover 3D printing – anyone interested to attend can have a look on https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/o/telford-amp-wrekin-libraries-10043874392
