Summer Reading Challenge aims to set new world record
Telford & Wrekin Council is launching Record Breakers Summer Reading Challenge on Saturday 11 July at Southwater Library.
Children from the borough are being invited to take up the Summer Reading Challenge – by visiting any borough library during the summer holidays and earning prizes by reading at least six books.
This year’s launch is special as Telford and Wrekin Libraries are joining with The Reading Agency and libraries all over the country to set a Guinness World Record.
The record they are aiming for is the most number of pledges of support received for a reading campaign. While the Summer Reading Challenge is just for children, anyone can pledge their support.
To celebrate the launch of the challenge, magician Barrington Powell will be at the Southwater Library all day. This will include performances at 11am and 1.30pm. No booking is necessary.
Councillor Angela McClements, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Libraries, said: “Pledging is easy – just visit Southwater Library between 10am and 3pm or Wellington Library between 10am and 12 noon, complete a card and hand it in.
“Children and adults can pledge so why not drop in and help us create a new world record.”
The launch of Record Breakers Summer Reading Challenge is just the start of a summer of activities at our libraries to keep children busy.
