Warm welcome to The Walnut at Wellington
The Mayor of the borough of Telford and Wrekin will be joining the Mayor of Wellington, local councillors and others for the official opening of The Walnut restaurant in Wellington on Tuesday (11 June).
The restaurant at 35-37 Tan Bank is bringing something different to the town, with a menu that includes popular favourites, vegetarian and vegan dishes, small plates, a children’s menu and desserts.
Food will be locally sourced where possible and there will be discounts for Blue Light, NHS and Armed Forces card holders.
The restaurant is owned by Karen Lee who has managed businesses in Shropshire for over 10 years and is excited to be opening her own place.
Karen said: “The past few weeks have been incredibly busy getting ready for the opening, but I have an excellent team in place and we are excited for the future of The Walnut and Wellington town. I am very pleased with the results of our efforts as the restaurant looks great and I have to say a big thank you to Telford & Wrekin Council for all their support. Their Empty Unit Incentive Grant has had a very positive effect and given me huge confidence to launch the business.
“I am very much looking forward to the official opening and to welcoming people to the restaurant in the weeks, months and years to come.”
The incentive grants are one of the many ways the Council is supporting businesses and rejuvenating high streets as part of its Pride in Our Community High Street initiative.
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for finance, commercial services and economic development, said: “I’m happy that we have been able to help Karen open her first restaurant and I wish her the very best for the future. These grants really do make a difference for people wanting to start their own business, and the businesses are great for the local economy.”
