Thanks to winter maintenance teams and snow wardens

Telford & Wrekin Council’s winter maintenance teams have had their quietest season since 2006 – following a generally mild winter.

The council’s gritters were sent out a total of 46 times during the winter months and used two tonnes of salt.

This follows the winter of 2017/18 which was the busiest for some years with gritters going out 113 times, spreading more than six tonnes of salt.

Another indication of the mild winter was the number of potholes reported to the council. From January to March, 486 potholes were reported and repaired which compares to 2,186 in the same period the previous winter.

Angie Astley, Telford & Wrekin Council’s assistant director for Customer and Neighbourhood Services, said: “I would like to say a big thank you to all our winter maintenance teams and snow wardens for their work this winter in keeping the borough moving and road users safe.”
