This maintains their grant at the same level as their previous grant agreement and is part of a series of one off budget announcements totaling £3.6m.

This has been made possible because of some changes to the council’s finances alongside a one off tax rebate.

The grant will enable the Citizens Advice Telford & the Wrekin to continue to deliver their service at Southwater and also supports the delivery of their services from Tan Bank in Wellington.

It also enables them to secure funding from a wide range of other sources.

Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Council Finance, Commercial Services and Economic Development, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to commit to continuing to fund Citizens Advice Telford & the Wrekin for the next two years.

“They provide an invaluable support service to our residents often at times of crisis and the money will mean they can continue to develop their offer going forward.”

Citizens Advice Telford & Wrekin provides a free, independent and impartial advisory services which responds to client needs and refers clients to other agencies where appropriate.

Caro Hart, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Telford & Wrekin, said: “We are very grateful to Telford & Wrekin Council for their continuing support.

“This grant enables us to help around 17,000 local people annually with almost 30,000 different problems which includes welfare benefits problems, serious debts and much more.

“Last year we helped people get almost £7m in financial gains which is a considerable gain to the Telford & Wrekin economy.

“This grant will enable us to maintain our open-door services five days per week and to offer services to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. Thank you.”
