Pride In Our Community improvements - week beginning 25 February 2019
Here’s an update on what our crews are working on this week - improvements to roads, footpaths, street lighting and much more...
Roads and footpaths – Carriageway patching is being carried out in Burford, Brookside (the road leading from Red House PH to Edgmond), Deepdale, Hollinswood, Hadley Road, Oakengates and Water Lane, Newport. Maintenance works start on Grainger Drive and A518 Garrison Roundabout, Donnington. Work on footpaths continues in Oakengates (Leonard Street, Kensington Way, Cavendish Close and Old Croft) and Dawley Road, Arleston. Road markings are being reinstated on Holyhead Road following resurfacing work last week. Get live updates on street works and traffic management schemes in Telford here.
Safety schemes – crews continue to work on Grainger Drive, Leegomery to improve the crossing facilities outside Millbrook Primary School as well the installation of a school safety zone. Work also starts on Priorslee Avenue to implement a school safety zone and flashing
speed indicator signs along the route.
Signing schemes – Work continues on a scheme to replace the directional signing at Apley Roundabout and also ‘Welcome to Telford’ gateway signs across the borough. Work also starts on Hollinswood Interchange and St Quentin Roundabout to improve the signing.
Residential parking – work to improve parking provision in Oakfield and Span Meadow in Shawbirch will be finished off this week. Work will also start in the Waverly area.
Winter maintenance – our gritters will be out as and when needed. Here’s the Met Office 5 day forecast for Telford.
Potholes - crews are filling potholes that have been reported to us. Please report any you spot here or via the Everyday Telford app.
Street lighting – crews are upgrading street lights in Wellington and Newport. They will also be revisiting a number of other locations upgrading lights where access had been an issue on their initial visit. As the teams upgrade the street lights in each area, they inspect each column and light first. In some cases, the column needs replacing and so it will be at this point that the new LEDs are installed. Some are in need of further inspection, and so these too are being done later. The LED programme will be completed by April. If you have a question about street lighting, please email streetlighting@telford.gov.uk.
Drainage works – crews will be working in Church Street, Sh Georges this week.
Grounds maintenance and litter picking – spring flowers are looking lovely, so keep a look out when you are out and about. As always, you can report a grounds maintenance issue here. Anyone wanting to report an issue with littering in their area can do so here.
Environmental enforcement – our enforcement team is supporting Friends of Apley Woods this week in an effort to raise awareness of the issue of dog fouling in the woods. The team will be there Thursday afternoon with enforcement vans to help highlight the problem, and Fixed Penalty Notices will be issued to anyone spotted not picking up after their dog. Whilst the majority of owners are responsible and pick up after their dogs, there are a number who don’t. There really is no excuse - FREE dog poo bags are available from a number of outlets around the borough – details of where here.
Street Champions – our Street Champions report issues they see to us and do litter picks (among other things). Details about volunteering as a Street Champion or Snow Warden and other volunteering opportunities here.
