Telford & Wrekin Council will be taking part in a social media marathon called Our Day on Tuesday 20 November – which showcases the range of services that the public sector provides.

Social Media Marathon to Showcase Wide Range of Public Services

Our Day 2018 is a day for local government to come together for the biggest online celebration of the people who keep our communities running.

Using the hashtag #OurDay, councils, health organisations and emergency services use the day to share stories of how they improve the quality of life for residents all over the country.

Telford & Wrekin Council will be using Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to communicate those messages. Last year the council tweeted more than 100 times and received fantastic engagement.

Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Shaun Davies said: “Everyone knows that we empty bins and look after the road network, but not everyone appreciates that we provide literally hundreds of services for our residents.

“Our Day is an opportunity to celebrate that and demonstrate what we do – from community partnerships, running leisure facilities like the ice rink, tennis centre, Horsehay Village Golf Centre to providing essential services for vulnerable adults and children.”

Nationally Our Day in 2017 saw 14,000 contributors post more than 45,000 tweets reaching more than 31 million people.
