Telford resident wins £2,000 in Twincl lottery draw
One lucky individual from Telford has won £2,000 from Twincl, Telford & Wrekin Council’s community lottery.
There have been several winners so far but this is the first time someone has won £2,000.
The lottery is on track to raise more than £37,000 for over 40 local good causes that have signed up to take part so far.
Everyone who plays the community lottery can choose to donate to a particular good cause that is close to their heart or the Twincl Community Fund, a general good cause fund which provides vital support to a wide range of local organisations and community initiatives.
The winner had chosen to support The Twincl Community Fund.
However people choose to support local good causes in Telford and Wrekin through Twincl, 60p of every £1 ticket sold goes towards supporting them.
This represents more than double the amount the National Lottery gives to good causes.
Cllr Lee Carter, Cabinet Member for Finance, Commercial Services and Economic Development, said: “Twincl has made a great start and has been really well supported by our community.
“It’s a great way for people to contribute to the good causes they care about directly and support the amazing work being done in the community like Forge Urban Revival that aims to reduce social isolation in Oakengates or Recharge who help young people with Drug and Alcohol Dependency and Emotional Well Being – there is a good cause for everyone.”
Councillor Carter also encouraged leaders of good causes to sign up to benefit from the lottery.
He added: “With this being Telford’s 50th anniversary, we’re focusing on investing in Telford’s communities for this year and in the future. We are hoping that several of the community groups who are taking part in Telford50 celebrations will also take part in this lottery.”
The £25,000 jackpot hasn’t been won yet, but if you fancy your chances and are looking for an easy way to donate to local good causes then you can buy your own Twincl ticket at www.twincl.co.uk.
