Safety event success for more than 2,300 students

More than 2,300 students from over 50 schools across Telford and Wrekin are taking part in a multi-agency partnership event aimed at raising their awareness of important safety issues.

The Crucial Crew event is taking part over 14 days at Telford College.

 CrucialCrew is aimed at 10-11 year old students and is designed to provide them witheducation in safety essentials in preparation for their next step up to secondaryschool.

 Thechildren took part in several different scenarios throughout the day, learningabout:

  • road safety
  • fire safety
  • electrical safety
  • streetwise
  • anti-social behaviour
  • internet safety
  • be active
  • ready set prepared ( emergency planning )  
  • alcohol awareness
  • water safety

CouncillorShirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Employment, Education & Life LongLearning, said: “Crucial Crew is a fantastic event with more than 2,300children receiving guidance on what to do in a number of potentially unsafesituations.

“It'sessential that we equip children with the knowledge to tackle many unsafesituations and Crucial Crew certainly managed to do that over the course of aday.

“It waseasy to tell that the children had a fantastic day, but also that they were learningevery step of the way.

“I would very much like to thank Telford College who have been a great venue for an event of this size andnature.
