Road safety education accelerates into the future.

With the help of funding from the Community Safety Partnership Board, 15 headsets, two tablets and a choice of scenarios to support pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and car drivers, will ensure Telford & Wrekin Council’s road safety team can engage with people like never before.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Homes & Enforcement, Councillor Richard Overton (Lab) said: "The introduction of VR technology into our road safety education program marks a significant step forward in our efforts to promote safer road behaviours.

“By combining cutting-edge technology with proven educational strategies, we believe we can make a significant impact in reducing road-related injuries and fatalities."

"Using the latest technology, means we are able to develop immersive workshops that appeal to a new audience, particularly targeting younger drivers."

The team will kick off this groundbreaking initiative by hosting drop-in sessions at local schools, colleges, and public events. These sessions will offer participants the opportunity to experience the VR scenarios firsthand, providing valuable feedback and reactions that will further inform the development of future educational programs.

This initiative will utilise the newly acquired VR technology alongside more traditional educational resources and techniques, with the ultimate goal of reducing Killed or Seriously Injured (KSIs) incidents on local roads.
