Donnington play area receives grant for redevelopment
Funding to the value of just over £21,000 has been granted by SUEZ Communities Trust to Telford & Wrekin Council for the renovation and upgrade of a play area at the Donnington Lifelong Learning Centre.
The Let’s Play – Donnington Project for children aged under 12, will see two separate play areas, joined together by removing the central fence creating a larger facility.
New equipment such as a seesaw, roundabout, swings and multi-play climbing frame with slide will be installed with the project planned to be completed by the end of November.
As the only outdoor play equipment in the ward, the area is vital in encouraging children to engage in fun physical outdoor play activities.
SUEZ Communities Trust (formerly SITA Trust) works closely with the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) - a tax credit scheme that encourages landfill site operators to pass on funds to community and environmental projects through approved bodies such as councils.
Cabinet Member for Leisure, Green Spaces and Parks, Councillor John Minor said: “This funding boost from SUEZ Communities Trust is great news, the play area is in desperate need of being brought up to date.
“The site is split into two areas so parents with more than one child are often toing and froing between the two. After the upgrade, the site will become one area so parents can let their children play freely, knowing they are secure and contained with safe and stimulating equipment to play with.”
