Council launches Silver Birch and Walnut, the first Family Hubs in the borough
On Thursday, 24 August 2023, Telford & Wrekin Council is launching the first two Family Hubs in the borough, Silver Birch Family Hub in Sutton Hill and Walnut Family Hub in Woodside.
Family Hubs are one-stop centres where families will be able to access information, guidance and support on a range of services, including infant feeding, mental health, healthy lifestyles and parenting classes.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds (Lab), cabinet member for Early Years, Children and Young People, said:
“We want to provide the right help at the right time for every family in our borough who needs support to navigate through parenting, from pre-birth through the infant and toddler age and all the way up to 19 years, or up to 25 for young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
“Family Hubs are centres in communities that will help parents and carers to give their children the best start for life, by providing access to a wide range of services, from social care to education and mental well-being.
“Having all this support in one place in their community is a great benefit for families as they can go for face-to-face advice and additional support when they need it.
“We are delighted to launch this month the Silver Birch Family Hub in Sutton Hill and the Walnut Family Hub in Woodside.
“These Hubs, along with future ones, are named after trees – as a symbol of stability, growth and strength, in light also of our borough’s “Tree City of the World” achievement. We would like to thank everyone who recently voted for the names of these first Family Hubs.
“Join us at the launch event of the first Family Hubs on Thursday, 24 August 2023 at the Park Lane Centre. You are welcome to drop by anytime between 10.30am-12.30pm to talk to a range of organisations and providers offering information and support on breastfeeding, first aid, therapeutic support, financial support, support with reading for children (through the Bookstart packs) and many others.
“Don’t miss our free “Strike a Pose “photo booth and grab free printed snapshots!
“Our Strengthening Families team will host playful, fun sessions for parents/carers and children – with messy play, music and friendly conversations! “
“The Family Hubs launch event will be an informative and enjoyable one for the whole family so mark this day in your calendar. We are looking forward to welcoming you then at the Park Lane Centre.”
