Telford & Wrekin Council continue partnership with Telford Tigers

Telford & Wrekin Council are delighted to have agreed a multi-year contract with the Telford Tigers Limited which will see the Tigers Ice Hockey teams continue to use Telford Ice Rink as their base for training and home matches.

Telford Tigers is one club with two teams playing in the National Ice Hockey League and the North Laidler league respectively, over the last 30 years, the Telford Tigers have developed a reputation for hard fought, but fair, matches against some of the biggest names in British Ice hockey. Telford has an enviable history of producing high quality Ice Hockey players many of whom start their careers in their learn to play programmes.

In 2021/22 the Telford Tigers won both of their respective league titles the first in the clubs’ long history and each season the Tigers bring many opportunities for local residents of the borough to get up close and follow the team throughout their Ice Hockey Season. With a dedication for developing and promoting home grown talent the Tigers have become one of the most successful teams playing national sport in our Borough. 

Councillor Kelly Middleton (Labour), Cabinet Member for Leisure, Public Health and Well-Being, Equalities and Partnerships commented

“We have built up a great relationship with the Telford Tigers and we look forward to continuing this partnership over the next two years. We have a fantastic facility here in Telford with the Ice Rink and we know that the Telford Tigers matches attract both locals and visitors from across the region to come and see them play with dedicated fans turning up to support their team each week. The matches offer a high-adrenaline sporting arena for fans to enjoy.”  

Mike Washburn, Chairman Telford Tigers said:

“Over recent years the relationship between the club and the Council has strengthened and both organisations now actively support and promote each other whenever and wherever they can. We have a shared view of the future of our sport within the borough and beyond which is predicated on both stability and growth. This multi-year contract further reinforces that relationship. The ice rink is our home, and we are proud to live there, we have some exciting plans for the next few years, and we look forward to continuing our journey together.”

Telford & Wrekin Council Ice Rink will also sponsor the Man of the Match awards for the next two seasons as part of their ongoing support for the club and is always a highlight of match-night games. 

Telford Ice Rink is open seven days a week and offers family skate sessions, Skate4Life lessons, disco sessions as well as the excitement of hosting Ice Hockey matches.
