A week to apply for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration Funds.
The fund aims to make the Platinum Jubilee weekend one to remember, a time for celebration, community spirit and for marking and remembering the seven decades of Her Majesty’s reign. Telford & Wrekin Council are encouraging the local community to come forward and apply for funding to create their own special celebrations from street parties to larger community events.
Local groups and organisations who can apply include:
community and voluntary groups
faith groups
charities
other not for profit organisations
Parish/Town Councils
schools – events/projects must be open for the wider public
businesses – events/projects must be for the benefit of the community and not profit making for that business
residents associations – larger scale events for an area/housing estate
individuals – events/projects must be open to the community and there must be a responsible body who is willing to hold the funds on their behalf
Telford & Wrekin Council launched The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration Fund to support local communities to come together to hold their own Platinum Jubilee events and celebrations and more information can be found at www.telford.gov.uk/jubilee2022
Grants can be applied for a community event or project as part of the celebrations. Small (up to £500) or large (up to £2,000) grants are available, both with a 20% match funding requirement (cash/in-kind). Activities should take place in May, June or July 2022, and preference will be given to events taking place over the Jubilee weekend (Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June).
The closing date for applications is Friday 4th February 2022.
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, 70 years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old.
An extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June 2022, will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.
The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.
Councillor Carolyn Healy (Lab) Climate Change, Parks, Green Spaces, Natural and Historical Environment and Cultural Services, Telford & Wrekin Council said
“We can’t wait to see the variety of events and celebrations that groups and organisations within the borough are planning. I’m sure all the activities will make it a truly memorable weekend and Telford and Wrekin Council is here to support groups to do just that.”
