Veolia’s £15k EnviroGrant scheme is accepting applications

Community groups across Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to apply for grants worth up to £1,000.

Veolia’s £15k EnviroGrant scheme is accepting applications

The popular EnviroGrant scheme is run by Veolia, the UK’s leading resource management company, as part of the contract secured by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The grant scheme has been running since 2014 when Veolia took over the recycling and waste contract for the borough. The funding is available for projects that benefit the local community or help to enhance the environment. Since its launch, more than £124,000 has been awarded to over 100 projects.

Grants totalling up to £15,000 will be handed out in the next round of applications.

Previous successful projects include community gardens, volunteer training and resources for support groups.

In the last funding round, Donnington Partnership received an EnviroGrant to purchase tools to maintain the Liz Clare Community Orchard. Rose Gregory, Trustee, said: “The funding from Veolia has helped make the orchard more sustainable for the community and has helped our volunteers to keep the orchard maintained and accessible for all.”

Another successful applicant Lynn Mann, Project Coordinator for Leegate Community Centre said: “Funding from Veolia’s EnviroGrant was vital to us, as we started with zero funds. The grant enabled us to buy infrastructure such as planters, a water butt and supports for plants. It’s also enabled us to involve other groups from the community in the project.”

Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for neighbourhood, commercial services and regeneration, said:  “EnviroGrant is a great example of how we work with our partners to create a better borough. Through the added value element of our contract with Veolia, the Envirogrant and other charitable donations have meant that more than £175,000 has benefited the local community since 2014, which is just fantastic.”

Steve Mitchell, Regional Director for Veolia said: “We are incredibly proud of the work we have done since the contract started in 2014, - supporting the local community is a key part of our work in the borough. We are now taking applications for our next round of funding and would like to encourage groups and clubs to apply. Whether you’re a school with a green project in mind, a volunteer group looking to make a difference, or a community group with an idea for a project - EnviroGrant could be the grant for you.”

The closing date for applications is 30 November. More information and to apply here.
