Test and Trace support payments for more borough families

Following the recent Government’s guidance update on “Test and Trace Support Payments”, Telford & Wrekin Council is inviting borough parents and guardians who are not legally required to isolate due to coronavirus to apply for the scheme – if they need to take time off work to care for a child or young person who has been told to self-isolate

According to the current government’s guidance, residents might be eligible for a £500 payment if they’ve been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, or if they are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate.

The £500 payment is in addition to any benefits and Statutory Sick Pay that they might currently receive.

-If you’ve been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace because you’ve tested positive for coronavirus or been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive, you’re legally required to do so.

To support you during self-isolation, you could be eligible for a £500 Test and Trace Support Payment if you meet certain criteria detailed on the Council’s website

-If you are not legally required to self-isolate but you are the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate (on or after 8 March), you could be eligible for the £500 Test and Trace Support Payment or discretionary payment - if you meet certain criteria detailed on the Council’s website

Councillor Richard Overton, Cabinet Member for Enforcement, Community Safety and Customer Services said: “Following the government’s recent guidance on “Test and Trance” support payments, we have immediately put the updated scheme in place for our residents.

“We are now welcoming applications from both residents who have been legally required to self-isolate and that meet certain criteria set out nationally as well as from residents who are not required to self-isolate, but who are the parent or guardian of a child who is (if they meet certain criteria).

“To find out about the criteria required and more information about the scheme click here or call 01952 380400 (choose Option 1).

“We are aiming to process all applications as quickly as possible, as we know many residents are concerned around self-isolating due to loss of income.

“We know that the pandemic will still continue to present challenges. With children back to school and many residents having to leave home for work, increasingly more families might be faced with self-isolation requirements.

“As such, we are urging the government to provide an even higher support, so we can help these families when they need it.”
