Another COVID-19 Vaccination Centre opens today in Telford and Wrekin

Vaccinations will be provided at the centre by appointment only and people who are eligible to receive a vaccination will be contacted by the NHS with details of how to book.

The Vaccination Centre will also work directly with local health and care employers to directly book eligible frontline staff into appointments.

Council’s Leader Cllr Shaun Davies said: “It’s fantastic to see such progress being made and another vaccine service (AFC Telford United delivered by Wellington Pharmacy) going live from today in Telford and Wrekin.

“This is in addition to other vaccine sites already operating across the borough, including Telford International Centre - Shropshire’s largest vaccination centre.

“As a local authority, we will continue to do everything possible to ensure everyone eligible for a vaccine, in line with the national priority groups, can get appointments close to home.  There are still challenges on this - I am being contacted by Telford and Wrekin residents who are still offered the vaccine at centres as far as way as Manchester.

“The message for our residents is very clear, a local vaccine centre is available - you should either continue to seek a local site on the website included in the NHS letter received or over the phone or wait to be contacted by 119. There is no need to travel outside of the borough unless you want to.”

How can people access the new vaccination centre

The NHS will write to eligible people offering them the opportunity to book an appointment at the new Vaccination Centre via the NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Booking Service.

Letters will invite those eligible who live in reasonable travelling distance of the centre (within 45 minutes), and who haven't already been vaccinated by their local GP-led community vaccination service or hospital hub.

The letter that people will receive also explains that if you can’t travel to a vaccination centre, or there is another reason you can’t book an appointment at the nearest vaccination centre, you can choose to wait until your local GP services contact you if they haven’t already. If this is your preferred option – you don’t need to do anything now - wait for your GP service to make contact.

If you receive a letter and already have an appointment booked to have your vaccination at a local GP service please ignore the letter. There is nothing you need to do and please attend your appointment.

Nobody needs to contact the NHS, as people will be invited when it is their turn and people cannot get vaccinated by just turning up.

People who book into the Vaccination Centres will be greeted by colleagues who will marshal car parking and register them when they arrive. Bookings are staggered to allow social distancing and people are urged to support the smooth running of the centre by not arriving more than 10 or 15 minutes before for their appointment. They will receive a health status check and a pre-vaccination assessment before they have their jab. The whole process should take under 30 minutes.

In Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, further vaccination services will go live over the coming weeks. As soon as these are ready and available, they will appear on the national NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service.
