Council extends breakfast provision until school half term holiday
The Council continues to support families by providing the summer breakfast provision until the school half term holiday.
In support of the challenging times that families may be experiencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic free weekly breakfast parcels are being made available for children in years 3 - 11 who are in receipt of Free School Meals.
Parcels will contain breakfast items to last 5 days and will need to be collected.
If your child is eligible for free school meals registration will be required and collection from a dedicated centre. More details can be found here.
Parcels will be available until October half term and have been made available through the Local Authority Emergency Assistance Grant for Food and Essential Supplies from Defra.
The Council has provided more than 43,800 breakfasts to children and young people eligible for free school meals across the borough since June 2020. The breakfast provision is available in all wards across the borough.
Councillor Paul Watling Cabinet Member for Cooperative Communities, Engagement and Partnerships said: “We are delighted to be able to continue supporting families with breakfasts across the borough with the Local Authority Emergency Assistance Grant from Defra.
“We know these are testing times for families and the breakfast provision will help those who are eligible with increased food costs, lightening their burden.
“We are working with local partners who will be delivering the collection service (at a safe distance) and we thank them for their continued support.”
