Neighbourhood walkabouts in Arleston and Aqueduct, 25 September 2020
Today’s rather breezy Neighbourhood Walkabouts were in Arelston and Aqueduct. Local councillors met us to walk us round and talk about their issues and concerns. A few Arleston residents also stopped for a chat along the way.
In Arleston, we started at the community centre. Cllr Angela McClements raised issues around the general tidiness around the centre, including weeds on the verge under the community artwork and some overgrown shrubs and overhanging trees. A few fly tips, an abandoned shopping trolley, railings that need painting at the park on John Broad Avenue, a couple of footpaths and side streets needing resurfacing and a damaged wall by the shops that had been hit by a car were logged for sorting during the walkabout.
Other issues raised included parking in Kingsland and Kingsway Crescent and speeding on Arleston Lane and Arleston Avenue, which are both currently being looked at by the highways team. The area behind the shops and Limekiln Lane were also discussed as there have been issues around their general state, including fly tips – although not the Council’s responsibility, we are going to look at what can be done to help.
In Aqueduct, we were met by cllrs Andy Burford and Concepta Cassar at Pageant Drive. Overgrown hedges encroaching on footpaths, overhanging trees, detritus on footpaths and parking were the main issues raised and logged. Speeding along Castlefields Way was raised too. There were also discussions about what could be done to make the most use of a former play area that borders the proposed Local Nature Reserve as well as the namesake historic aqueduct.
