Meet the footpaths team
We would like to introduce our new footpaths team, Josh and Allan.
Josh and Allan have joined idverde grounds and street cleansing teams this week and will be dedicated to looking after footpaths, focusing first on the footpaths that weave through our New Town estates. Their work will be in addition to the scheduled day to day street cleansing and grounds maintenance work happening across the borough as part of our Pride in Our Community programme.
The idea for the dedicated footpath team came from recent Neighbourhood Walkabouts which identified that a more focused approach to looking after footpaths would make a real difference in our communities.
Work to keep footpaths clean and tidy has previously been done by various idverde crews, including the litter team, fly tip team, road sweepers and grounds maintenance. Whilst these teams will continue to help look after footpaths, the dedicated footpaths team will be able to do all of these tasks as part of the one job before moving on to the next job.
The multi-tasking duo will clean detritus, clear fly tips, cut back overgrown/overhanging shrubs, tidy up grass edges that encroach onto footpaths, prune and clear weeds. They will also report any other issues they spot that need picking up by other teams.
Cllr Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: “I’m delighted to see our idverde team expanded with the addition of Josh and Allan to look after footpaths. We have over 700 miles of footpaths to look after in our borough and the crews do a great job, but this dedicated resource is welcome news.”
If you have a cleansing/grounds maintenance issue with a footpath in your area, please report it here.
