Virtual session to seek views on future needs for people with learning disabilities

A wide-ranging engagement to shape the future of care for adults with learning disabilities and their families starts at the end of September.

Virtual session to seek views on future needs for people with learning disabilities

The Council understands the need to ensure that adults with learning disabilities have a say in what they are offered.

It wants to ensure that advice, information, care and support is aspirational, modern and meaningful for adults with learning disabilities.

As part of this, it is asking people who use the service and their carers to shape the future during a six week engagement.

It wants to hear what is important to you, what works well and what you aspire to.

To ensure the best outcome, the Council wants people to take part in the engagement and letting it know how you see the future.

The engagement to shape the future of care for adults with learning disabilities and their families starts with a virtual meeting on Wednesday, 30 September, 9am - 10am .

Anyone can come along to this briefing session to find out more and how you can be involved.

Book your place by emailing LDengagement@telford.gov.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 29 September

Councillor Andy Burford, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “We want people with a learning disability, their families and carers to receive the assistance they need in a way that enhances their independence and enables them to lead meaningful, valued lives in their own communities.

“We want to understand what adults with learning disabilities need to live as independently as possible with the right support in place.

“Adults with learning disabilities should have the opportunity to live happy, healthy, safe and independent lives, be respected and have choice and control over their decisions, including getting out and about and going to work.

“We want people’s feedback so we can then develop a local Adults with Learning Disability Strategy which will help us deliver our responsibilities as well as meeting local needs.”
