Pre-demolition works to start at New College on Monday
Work starts at the former New College site in Wellington on Monday ahead of the redevelopment of the site.
The work is being funded through the Local Growth Fund administered by the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, as part of the Councils Stronger Communities programme.
Telford & Wrekin Council has secured the use of drilling equipment to carry out intrusive surveys – some of them inside the buildings that will be demolished, others in the wider grounds of the site. Early survey works will assist in the acceleration of the project which is set to provide new homes and community facilities.
The initial work starts on Monday and lasts for three days with further works scheduled between 8-20 October and 27 October-2 November.
The works do not affect the affect the Edwardian school building which has been awarded Grade II listed status
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for the Neighbourhood, Commercial Services and Regeneration, said: “We have the opportunity to carry out ground investigation works prior to the demolition of the buildings on the former New College site and it makes sense for us to do it now.
“Nearby residents will notice machinery arriving to carry out the works and we expect that the work will be quite noisy but we are committed to minimising disruption as much as we can.
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that is caused during these works.”
The work will only affect the southern half of the site to the north of Mill Lane.
