The Knife Angel has arrived in Telford

The Angel was officially opened by the Mayor of Telford and Wrekin, Councillor Stephen Reynolds and Knife Angel Owner, Clive Knowles.

There will be activities happening throughout March which are listed on the website.

Over 2,000 school children will be visiting Southwater throughout the month to see the Knife Angel and to take part in an educational workshop where they will learn more about the effects of knife crime in the community. The workshops will be provided by Loudmouth Theatre Company.

23 local businesses and organisations have come forward to sponsor The Knife Angel through either cash donations or offering discounted or free of charge services to assist with the transport, logistics and promotion of the Knife Angel while it is here in the borough. A list of these generous businesses can be found on our website

Additionally 55 people have volunteered to assist at the Knife Angel whilst it is in Southwater.  Volunteers will be providing information and advice to members of the public and meeting and greeting visitor groups throughout March.

Councillor Richard Overton, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Enforcement, said: “We are delighted that The Knife Angel will be in Telford throughout the whole of March – a huge thank you to all of our volunteers and businesses who have supported us in bringing the Angel to the borough. Their help has been invaluable.

“As a council we are very happy to support this impressive initiative to raise awareness of the effects of knife crime and play a part in helping to prevent this. Seeing the Knife Angel and other supporting activities will hopefully further open people’s eyes to this important issue.”

The Knife Angel is an impressive sculpture, made from more than 100,000 knife blades, which aims to raise awareness of knife crime in the UK and to help stop people carrying knives.

It was created at the British Ironwork Centre by sculptor Alfie Bradley and is made from knives collected as a result of working with police forces and introducing knife amnesties across the country. The sculpture is dedicated to the victims of knife crime - a number of the blades carry the names of knife crime victims, inscribed by their loved ones.
