Ironbridge Gorge Flooding Update - 1 March 9.30 am

The Environment Agency has downgraded its status for the River Severn at Ironbridge from “severe” to “flood warning – Flooding is expected, immediate action required”.

Ironbridge Gorge Flooding Update - 1 March 9.30 am

After Storm  Jorge hit yesterday (29 Febr), water levels are rising again in Ironbridge Gorge and we expect them to peak tomorrow afternoon (Monday,  2 March) but hopefully at least a metre lower than last week.

The flood barries are repaired and ready for any further rising water.

In the meantime, we continue to offer alternative accommodation at both the Valley Hotel and The Tontine hotel over the weekend and into next week as required.

Now isn’t the right time for us to move into our “recovery” phase but rest assured, when the time is right we will be here to help with the clean-up operation.

These roads in the Ironbridge Gorge are now open:

  • The Wharfage - pedestrian access only
  • Tontine Hill/High St -  pedestrian access only
  •  Ironbridge Rd
  • Madeley Rd from Top Hill
  • Station Rr
  • Buildwas Rd
  • Coalford
  • Dale End
  • The Lloyds
  • Waterloo St
The Wharfage and Dale End car parks are now open

These roads are closed

  •   Paradise - open to residents only
  • Church Hill - open to residents only
  • Lincoln Hill - open to residents only
  • Ferry Rd

We ask that people don't move the Heras fencing where there is a road closure as this gives the impression roads are open and safe to pass when they are not.

The refuse collection crews have been out and have managed to collect the majority of households. For those residents they could not access are asked to present their bin if it safe to do so and crews will return. If garden waste is uncollected, please take it back in and put it out on your next scheduled collection day.

Any query or concern about flooding, call our contact centre on 01952 384000 (open until 9pm). In the event of an emergency, call 999

Drop in sessions that were planned at Enginuity for this week have been rearranged for next week and we will provide more details on this towards the end of the week.

We are continuously working with the residents that have been evacuated and affected by the floods providing advice and assistance.

We will provide further updates as and when have them.  BBC Radio Shropshire will also be keeping people updated so please listen in.
