Ironbridge Gorge flooding update 26 Feb
Updated 5.35pm - Ironbridge Gorge flooding. Emergency evacuation underway.
Emergency evacuation being carried out in Ironbridge along the Wharfage this afternoon.
The Environment Agency says the temporary flood barriers along the Wharfage were becoming ineffective and unprecedented water levels overwhelmed sections of the barrier causing damage in places. There is some leakage as a result. We are continuing to pump as much water away as possible.
Please note there are road closures in place in Ironbridge Gorge - please heed the ROAD CLOSED signs as they are there for your safety and to allow the emergency services to do their job.
All roads into the Ironbridge Gorge this morning are closed to general traffic.
The following roads are closed and are impassable.
🚫 The Wharfage
🚫 Buildwas Road
🚫 Ferry Road
🚫 Coalford
🚫 Dale End
🚫 The Lloyds
🚫 Waterloo Street
*** THE FREE BRIDGE is also closed so there is no access to Broseley from Ironbridge ***
The following roads are accessible for residents through managed entrances:
* Tontine Hill / High Street
* Paradise
* Ironbridge Road
* Madeley Road from Hill Top
* Church Hill
* Lincoln Hill
* Station Road
*Traffic over Coalport Bridge (Woodbridge) is being manually controlled because of its vehicle weight limit. Please avoid this route if possible. If you do need to use it, please expect long delays and be patient.
To access Broseley, Much Wenlock, or Jackfield, please use Jiggers Bank up to the Park and Ride roundabout at the junction of the A4169 – follow signs for Much Wenlock.
To access Coalport please go via Legges Way
To access Coalbrookdale, please use Jiggers Bank to up its junction with Paradise.
Residents of Coalbrookdale that live past Paradise should use Station Road but please proceed with care along this road. Access to Station Road is now being controlled for people's safety.
Households due a recycling and food recycling collection in the Ironbridge area tomorrow (Thursday 27 February) are asked to present their containers where safe to do so. If crews can collect they will. If unable to collect, they will return as soon as it is safe to do so, so please leave containers out. If garden waste is uncollected, please take it back in and put it out on your next scheduled collection day.
Coalbrookdale & Ironbridge Primary school will remain closed for the rest of the week.
