On Sunday 30 June the Friends of Bowring Park in Wellington are holding a picnic in the park with a bit of a difference.

Dog show part of the line-up for park’s big chill

The Wellbeing Picnic between 12noon-3pm, will mean people can have a go at a host of chilled-out activities.

Pilates, yoga and tai chi are just some of the less strenuous activities focused on wellbeing.

There will also be informal games like rounders, Kwick Cricket, tennis, climbing and Zumba, led by community coaches and even a dog show.

The event has been organised thanks to £1,500 grant from Telford & Wrekin Council as part of the Lets Get Telford Active campaign, and is co-hosted with the Wellbeing Hubs Network.

The council funding has been used to hire coaches andi nstructors for activities, and purchase games equipment that will continue to be available in the park in the future.

Kath Howard, Chair of Friends of Bowring Park, said: “The Wellbeing Picnic aims to be a relaxed, friendly, sociable occasion for anyone who wants to try something new and perhaps find a love for an activity that they did not know they had.

“Being active is important for wellbeing as well as physical health. We have something for everyone who wants to pick up an activity, regardless of fitness levels.

“We are a fairly new voluntary group looking to make Bowring Park a valued space for the local community where people can be active and socialise with friends and family."

Andy Burford, Cabinet Member for health and social care, said:“Having fun and the right support are so important when it comes to being active. So we’re lucky to have many passionate people in our communities like Kath Howard helping to create these events.

“Places all over Telford and Wrekin, from villages to bigger towns will have new events springing up where people can get together andhopefully find something they love.”
