Phil Haigh took up the post in May and has spent his first few weeks making a start on getting to know the borough better and meeting town and parish councils, community organisations and local groups.

As well as keeping our streets, parks and green spaces clean and tidy, idverde is committed to working closely with communities so that it can make more of a difference.

This appointment is part of idverde’s community-focussed approach to serving the borough.

Before joining idverde, Phil was a Police Community Support Officer in Telford for 13 years.  He said: “I am really happy to be taking on this new role, and hope that the community work I have been doing will help me to do a good job.

“I love the borough and I love the fact that people love it too.  Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with many different groups and individuals who care about their communities. Working with them was one of the aspects of my job that I really liked, and so I am looking forward to working more closely with them in my new role.”

As part of the work he is doing with communities, Phil will help them to access grant funding for environmental projects and schemes. He will also work with the council’s community participation team to set up volunteering, training and work experience opportunities and organise local events.

Cllr Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: “Working closely with local communities to keep our borough greener and cleaner is important to us.

“idverde crews are doing a great job in the borough, as are our volunteers, including our amazing Street Champions. Having Phil on board is a very welcome addition to the service, and I look forward to seeing more of him in the coming months.”
