Council trainer recognised for saving football fan
A trainer employed by Telford & Wrekin Council has been recognised for performing emergency first aid on a football fan who suffered a heart attack during a recent game.
The 26 year old male has made a full recovery after a stay in hospital following the incident at AFC Telford United’s FA Trophy Semi Final Second Leg against Leyton Orient at the New Buck’s Head.
Dudley Evans, a first aid trainer for Telford Business Services, was presented with a commendation from Telford & Wrekin Council’s managing director Richard Partington in recognition of the support and assistance he gave the Leyton Orient fan.
Dudley administered first aid on the fan while waiting for the emergency services to arrive.
Dudley said: “I teach first aid skills to local businesses and school staff in Telford on a daily basis and I was able to put this knowledge into action to help this young man.
“I am delighted to learn that he subsequently made a full recovery – it really shows how important it is to have a level of first aid understanding, it really can save lives.”
Council managing director Richard Partington said: “Thanks to Dudley’s swift action in performing emergency first aid, the young man’s life was saved. I am delighted to recognise what he did and would like to thank him for reacting quickly to what was a very serious situation.”
Telford & Wrekin Council leader Councillor Shaun Davies said: "I would like to both thank andcongratulate Dudley for what he did - it was typical of the professionalism of the council's staff and there is no doubt he saved the young man's life."
