Balloon Fiesta hits new heights
An estimated 50,000 visitors enjoyed a fabulous weekend of free family entertainment at Telford Balloon Fiesta.
The record numbers of around 25,000 each day savoured a number of highlights including the spectacular nightglow, massed balloon lift offs and the finals of England and Wales’ Strongest Man.
Packed crowds were treated to a range of entertainment in and around Telford Town Park Arena on Saturday and Sunday.
There were 34 different balloons at the Fiesta with pilots coming from as far away as Canada and Malaysia to take part.
Strong winds limited balloon flights on Saturday, however crowds were thrilled by the Nightglow and balloon watchers were rewarded with near perfect conditions on Sunday including clear blue skies.
The crowds also packed the Arena for the Wales and England finals of the Ultimate Strongman, brought to Telford in association with MKM Building Supplies.
Council leader Shaun Davies said: “It was a fantastic weekend of free family entertainment.
"A huge thanks to everyone who made this happen especially the dedicated army of volunteers who helped in so many different ways.
“Thanks also to our event sponsors, suppliers, Telford Centre Rotary and council staff who worked tirelessly to make the event such a success attracting thousands of new visitors to our borough.
“We set out to create an event that showcases what Telford has to offer and its fantastic facilities – I am sure that many of those visitors will be coming back and spreading the word about what a great place this borough is.“
