Telford Education Schools Show returns for the second time
The Telford Education Schools Show returns to Enginuity, Coalbookdale in Telford for the second time on Tuesday 2 April 2019, following the success of the first event of its kind.
The event is free and is packed with over 30 inspirational speakers, exhibitors, workshops and activities, all inspired to enhance teaching and learning in schools.
All of the council’s trusted partners and suppliers will be present to ensure schools get the most out of the ICT service provided to them.
The event includes 3 keynote speakers from Google and The University of West England.
Jeminatu Alabi-isama, regional education manager from Google leads UK education initiatives around Google for Education and Chromebooks. Jeminatu has managed the Google Student Ambassador program in Sub Saharan Africa and launched the Google Educator Group communities in South Africa.
The second keynote speaker is Ben Carpenter who is associate lead for talent and outreach programs, also from Google. Ben works on developing the next generation, ensuring students have the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge to ensure their employability, which is a key challenge for educators.
Joining them will be Dr Harriet Shortt Associate Professor in Organisation Studies from University of West England. She will discuss how students are working and studying in collaborative spaces, how co-working spaces are impacting staff and student relationships, and consider how non-traditional study spaces, such as incubator business hubs, impact learning and teaching.
New to the TESS event this year are the escape rooms where students are presented with a scenario and a set time limit by which to complete a series of challenges using technologies such as Minecraft, virtual reality and robotics. To solve these also requires critical thinking skills, teamwork, patience and other key life skills. Six schools will be going head to head to get the fastest escape time and win a prize.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Cabinet Member for Employment, Education & Life Long Learning said: “The success and popularity of the first TESS event proves schools and educators value the importance of events such as these for developing and improving teaching environments for students.
“The TESS event also enables schools to help lower their total cost of ICT ownership whilst utilising the benefits of technologies, which enhances the teaching and learning within their schools”.
