Grant boost for community groups

More than £21,000 is being given to 30 community groups in Telford and Wrekin thanks to three local community funds.

Grant boost for community groups

The EnviroGrant and Sports Funding, run by recycling contractor Veolia in conjunction with Telford & Wrekin Council, are giving £7,500 to local projects as part of the added value through the Waste Services Contract.

Telford & Wrekin Council will give an additional £14,000 of Pride funding to a variety of local community groups this week.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, said, “It’s fantastic that so many local community groups will have this support to deliver the good work they do in making the borough a great place to live.”

Steve Mitchell, Veolia Area Director, said, “We’re delighted to support local groups through these grants. EnviroGrant is just one of the ways Veolia helps the local community as part of the added value we provide in the borough. The EnviroGrant scheme alone has given more than £45,000, since it we began working in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council in 2014.”

The successful organisations will attend a celebratory event at the Park Lane Centre Woodside to receive their funding this Thursday (21 March). Projects to benefit include an eco garden, youth running sessions and activities for isolated groups.
