Mayor's personal ‘thank you’ to voluntary groups
More than 30 voluntary groups and organisations have been invited to a presentation evening on Friday, March 15, to celebrate their achievements with Telford & Wrekin Mayor Councillor Raj Mehta.
Councillor Mehta’s charity ‘Building Bridges – Bringing Communities Together’ has raised in excess of £10,000 during his year in office.
The evening will provide him with an opportunity to individually thank many of the community groups and volunteers for the work they have been doing.
From the group that supports swimmers to get fit after surgery to Horsehay Youth Group, various organisations from across Telford and Wrekin applied for the fund and were allocated grants valued at £250 or £500 while others were awarded a grant based on committee decisions.
The grants will support voluntary organisations undertaking charitable activities within the Borough of Telford and Wrekin primarily focused on social needs, the disadvantaged or deprived.
Councillor Raj Mehta said: “This event is going to be wonderful as I’ll be meeting the individuals in our community who are striving for the same things as me – bridging gaps, supporting each other and working together to build an even better future.
“There are so many people doing great things day in, day out and this will be an opportunity to say ‘thank you’, put them in the spotlight and highlight the great work they are doing for all sorts of people.
