Oakengates Children’s Centre to move to The Wakes
Oakengates Children’s Centre is set to be run by Oakengates Town Council as a result of Telford & Wrekin Council’s latest example of partnership working with the community.
Telford & Wrekin Council had agreed budget saving proposals for children’s centre services across the borough – meaning a reduction in the council’s input into children’s centres while still maintaining its statutory responsibilities, .
This has resulted in the council working closely with partner organisations, individuals and community groups to seek alternative ways of delivering children’s centre services.
As part of this, Telford & Wrekin Council approached Oakengates Town Council to discuss possible options for Oakengates Children’s Centre.
This led to Oakengates Town Council expressing an interest in enabling the Children’s Centre registered building to be at The Wakes.
Following a successful public consultation, it was agreed that The Wakes would make an ideal venue for Oakengates Children’s Centre and this will open on Wednesday (16 January).
Oakengates nursery and day care provision will remain at The Place in Limes Walk.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Education and Skills, said: “This move will mean new provision is developed for children and families and will create more opportunities for early years provision in Oakengates and St Georges.
“It is yet another fine example of our close partnership working with the community.”
