The Wharfage closure: road expected to re-open in next couple of days
The main road through Ironbridge – which has closed to allow a utility company to complete emergency repairs to a burst pipe - is expected to re-open in the next couple of days.
Severn Trent Water have been on site at The Wharfage since the end of last week after they were notified of a leak of foul water.
Once the method of repair was identified, it became apparent that a road closure was required due to the size of the excavation and because of the complicated pipe network in the area.
The company is expecting to undertake the repair today with the road re-opening either tomorrow (Tue) or Wednesday.
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for Transport, said: “We are managing traffic in the area to minimise disruption and we have kept Arriva informed so they can plan their services.
“It is very much business as usual in Ironbridge and all shops and other businesses remain open.
“Severn Trent hope to get the road open in the next couple of days.”
