Visit Telford, Discover Adventure – film shines a new light on the borough
A new destination film featuring a modern Telford & Wrekin and its wide range of attractions is being launched as part of Telford’s 50th anniversary – with a scenario and music entirely produced by children in the borough!
“Visit Telford, Discover Adventure” is the newest Telford & Wrekin destination film, part-funded by Telford & Wrekin Council, with a scenario written by children and teachers of Newdale Primary School.
The soundtrack of the film has been put together by another school in the borough, namely Old Park, supported by the In Harmony project.
The new destination film features Telford and Wrekin as a leisure & entertainment destination – with pupils going on a day long journey full of adventures, to explore the many fantastic attractions Telford has on offer.
These include the new Southwater Square with its colour-programmed water jets, the central and modern Ice Rink and Southwater restaurants, newly refurbished Telford Town Park’s spider’s web, the famous Ironbridge and top of the Wrekin, with its spectacular views.
Speaking of how the film came about, Rachel Cook, head teacher of Newdale Primary School, said: “For Telford’s 50th birthday, we wanted to engage our children in something really special that would make them value the place they live in and that would also leave a legacy for the town itself.
“We started with the storyboard for the scenario and it’s been really amazing to see our pupils bursting with ideas.
“With so many places to explore in our borough, enhanced by the legacy projects as part of the 50th anniversary, it was really hard to choose which places our children would use in the film.
“They had a great time taking part in this video and you can really feel this when you watch it.
“We hope our film will inspire many more Telford residents to truly appreciate what they have on their doorsteps as well as more visitors to come and discover the adventures Telford’s got for them. They’ll be truly amazed!”
Mandie Haywood, Old Park’s Primary School Headteacher said: “We were really honoured to be invited to provide the music for “Visit Telford, Discover Adventure” film.
“What a great project! Having our children working with Newdale Primary, composing and selecting the music to go for each film scene, has been hugely inspirational and rewarding and the result is beyond expectations.
“What better way to show famous Telford landmarks as well as undiscovered places in our borough – then having the young generation embark on an adventurous journey and experience all these marvellous places themselves!
“It really leaves an amazing legacy for Telford’s golden anniversary.”
Councillor Rae Evans, Cabinet Member for People Services, Tourism & Partnerships, said: “Well done to everyone involved in this new, fantastic Telford film – this definitely maps our borough as a must-visit modern destination, with lots for everyone to enjoy.
“This year was more than an anniversary, it has been a celebration of all the things which make Telford so special and that will continue to develop in the next 50 years – we are delighted this video has managed to capture some of them and bring a new light to how people see our town.”

On 29 November (Telford’s 50th birthday date) the children enjoyed a special red carpet treatment at Cineworld and loved to see themselves and their friends in the film on the big screen. They also received "Thank you" certificates from the Mayor.
