Gem of a shop opens in Oakengates
Gems Fabric and Haberdashery has officially opened its new shop at 31 Market Street in Oakengates
The talented grandmother and granddaughter duo secured a £10,000 grant from Telford & Wrekin Council’s Pride in Our Community High Street Fund to help with their move from St Georges to the bigger shop in Oakengates.
Sue said: “We are so happy to be opening in Oakengates. Getting the shop ready has been a labour of love and we are really pleased with how it looks. We have more space to display a wider range of fabric and haberdashery items and a separate space for our dress, curtain and blind making and alterations service.
“We are really grateful for the support we have had from the council and look forward to welcoming new customers as well as serving all of those who already know about us.”
Councillor Lee Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for finance, commercial services and economic development, said: “Gems has been serving our community for almost 30 years and we wish them continued success in their new premises.
“The Empty Unit Incentive Grant is a fantastic initiative for anyone who has a great business idea for bringing an empty shop back into use. It is just one of the ways we are supporting local businesses and high streets, and grants are still available.”
