Veolia has given £5,000 to the Job Box initiative, as part of the added value within the contract secured by Telford & Wrekin Council, which sees Veolia give £25,000 to the community each year.

Participants attended group sessions about CV writing and interview skills, as well as one to one support right through into the first months of employment. The funding also helped remove barriers such as specific training needs or clothing needed to access particular jobs. Employment was gained in a variety of job areas including manufacturing, health and social care and retail.

Marie Blake, for Job Box, said, “A lady who participated in the training was in her 50s  and was concerned that her age may be a barrier to gaining a job.

“She was supported to create a CV on the computer and develop interview skills. One to one support gave her the confidence to attend job events, approach employers and apply for jobs. She has now successfully gained employment in retail and is really grateful of the help she received.”

Steve Mitchell, Area Director for Veolia, said, “We are delighted that the money given to Job Box is already having such a positive impact, only halfway through the project. We are also receiving good feedback that the rest of the £25,000 given to the community this year is adding value in the borough.”
