Every primary school gets a special Telford 50 memento
As part of Telford’s 50th birthday celebrations, every primary school in Telford receives a special Telford 50 memento from the Council.
All primary schools in Telford and Wrekin receive a special Telford 50 delivery which includes 50 daffodil bulbs, Telford 50 library cards for each child and two copies of the Telford 50 book, ‘The Ironbridge Ogre’.
Cllr Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning said: ‘As part of Telford’s 50th birthday, we want to get as many schools in the borough as possible involved in the celebrations and in creating a legacy for our town.
“Throughout the year, it’s been great to see so many schools hosting their own Telford 50 events including lessons on Telford’s history, taking part in legacy projects or in events such as Discover Digital.
“As we are approaching Telford’s 50th birthday date on 29 November, we want to award all primary schools with a special gift.
“As such, every primary school in the borough will get 50 daffodils bulbs to plant and grow in their school garden – and we hope these will be enjoyed for years to come, as a legacy of this celebration.
“Secondly, all primary school children will receive a special Telford 50 designed library card, which we hope they will make active use of in our libraries.
“Last but not least, the children will get to enjoy ‘The Ironbridge Ogre’ book, specially written by Toni Sian Williams in celebration of the 50 years of Telford – with two limited edition copies going to each school.
“Schools will then be able to create their own lessons based on this story and children can learn about what makes our borough a great place to live, work and visit.
“We hope that these gifts will bring joy to the children and will keep the Telford 50 spirit going.”
