National Offer Day - primary schools

Today (16 April) is National Offer Day, when children up and down the country learn which primary school they will attend in September 2021.

National Offer Day - primary schools

In Telford and Wrekin we received 1952 applications on time, and 95 per cent of these children gained a place at their first preference school.

A further 3.2 per cent gained a place at their second preference school, with another 0.6 per cent gaining a place at their third preference school.

This means that 99 per cent of children gained a place at one of their top 3 preference schools.

Every applicant who applied on time was offered a school place and 24 children did not gain a place at one of their preferred schools. We are pleased that this figure is a reduction in the number from last year.

Cllr Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education and Lifelong Learning said: “We have invested heavily in our primary schools in recent years, increasing the number of places available in schools in the areas where we knew they would be needed.

“A further 20 million pounds investment is planned over the next three years to further increase our primary schools by 800 places in light of forecast growth.

“Today’s figures show that this long-term approach has paid off and we are able to continue to offer more families places at their preferred schools than the regional and national averages, which is excellent news.”

Cllr Shirley Reynolds added: “We always remind parents that putting down only one or two schools doesn’t increase your chances of getting in there and we strongly recommend that all families visit their local schools and then use all four preferences on their application form.”

All applications are made online, applicants can log on to the website and see their offers from today, 16 April 2021. Emails will also be sent out to parents during National offer day.

Any children that have not been offered their first preference and wish to pursue alternative schools can go into their My Telford account and request a review of the school place by 30 April 2021.
