Town Park reopens gardens, pathways and bandstand after Telford 50 refurb
As part of the Telford 50 Legacy Fund, upgrades and renovations made to several areas of Telford Town Park have now completed for this summer.
Pathways have been resurfaced in the Maxell and Chelsea gardens, improving the accessibility of the gardens and encouraging visitors to explore them fully.
This compliments separately funded works completed earlier in the year to install interpretation boards. Providing visitors with information about how the award winning gardens have evolved.
After completing the works over a 6 week period in the summer, the team at Telford Town Park would like to thank visitors for their cooperation during this time.
Following the upgrade, there’s a community planting day where a variety of bulbs will be planted throughout the gardens on Wednesday 31st October between 11am-2pm. This is an opportunity to be involved in further improving the gardens for both visitors and wildlife, and to celebrate the Telford 50 legacy funding used to renovate the Chelsea and Maxell Garden pathways. The bandstand in Telford Town Park has also seen a considerable revamp as a result of Telford 50 Legacy funding; assisting in the replacement of any dislodged or missing tiles. Work also included upgrading the electricity supply, the installation of a tile/snow guard as a safety precaution and the replacement of the finial during the winter period.
The last part of the project will be to repaint. The renovation will allow the bandstand and surrounding area to be used for more events, building on the success of the Sakura Festival held in the spring.
Councillor John Minor, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Green Spaces and Parks, said: “What a year Telford has had. As the town turns 50, we’re thrilled to see the Telford 50 legacy project aiding improvements across the borough. Particularly Telford Town Park, the space is always evolving.”
The £2m Telford 50 Legacy Fund supports a mix of physical schemes as well as other projects that help tackle key social issues in the borough and reduce demand on council services.
Almost 1,400 people took part in a consultation in summer 2017 to find out what people wanted to see supported as a legacy of Telford 50.
The most popular themes included heritage and tourism, arts and culture and recreation. People were also keen to see the funding allocated to support community events and projects.
